[12 Jul 2009|09:02am] |
This summer, I will be appearing at two events (but only one of them in person)
One:
As Shaenon has pointed out, "The Cartoon Art Museum of San Francisco (www.cartoonart.org) is organizing "Monsters of Webcomics," a showcase of cutting-edge webcomics work." Some original art will be on display there for this show from August 8 - December 6, 2009. My original art is small and looks exactly the same on paper as it does when it is posted online, so prepare to have a reaction that is blasé. But then look at the amazing line up of talent they have otherwise and prepare to be amazed!
Two:
Vancouver! Are you going to be in Vancouver on August 23rd? So am I! Robin Bougie posted this one. Pretty cool, I haven't seen the west coast in a while, but I miss the mountains.

| may or may not make sense... |
[12 Jul 2009|01:55am] |
when the darkness falls upon silent scars who ribbon across skin whose once upon a goal was to but cover
in this in these circumstances do the loves and lost and loves lost meet upon the scarlet fading the skin's sensuous the dark the lip's exchange
the partly the wholeness the once-upon-a-time ness of living realities lost upon three year old girls;-
to know that it is true and sound and sleeping gently beside you is the world.
black may be dark, but, i will have you.

Anne why are you writing books about how alcoholic losers ruin people's lives? Don't you see that romanticizing douchey behavior is the proper literary convention in this family! Honestly.

| New Blythe Tutorial: Airbrushing Basics |
[08 Jul 2009|10:40am] |
[caption id="attachment_185" align="alignright" width="215" caption="Team Sibley's latest collaboration. She has 100% airbrushed makeup!"] [/caption]
We do a lot of airbrushing around here, because it's fast, durable, and gives a professional looking finish. We've compiled a list of tips and advice for beginners out there who want to give airbrushed Blythe makeup a try.
Airbrushing is great for so many Blythe customizations, including:
- Eyeshadow and blush
- Eyelid effects
- Lips
- Metallic makeup
- Eyechip "fades"
- Stenciled tattoos
- Scalp painting (with a vinyl paint)
- Furniture and set painting
We'll be adding more specific tutorials for different airbrushing techniques and applications in the future.
What are you waiting for? Get airbrushing!

| Moving |
[08 Jul 2009|09:35am] |
Well, in three weeks I've got to move from Toronto to Halifax, and I need to get a moving company! I hope I haven't left this too late.
I thought about driving, but was looking up uhaul reviews this morning and I had completely forgotten they were absolutely terrifying and it is something like renting a flaming death conduit, which I am keen to avoid. Has anyone had a very good experience with a moving company in Canada? Do tell!
I will probably do something special to cover the move, like commissions, which I never do. Sound good?

| snork |
[05 Jul 2009|08:12pm] |
so i finished that etgar keret book, and two more of the narnia books, and now i've started "animal, vegetable, miracle" inspired by having seen the documentary "food, inc" earlier this afternoon. i love having a bookshelf of unread books so my reading choices can meander around organically like this.
yesterday we went snorkeling again, this time at la jolla shores, and saw at least 300 leopard sharks and guitarfish. it's a strange thing, floating in water only a few feet deep with sharks swimming freely under you, more than you can count, until you feel positively surrounded. and when the waves push you closer to them, even though you know they're harmless, your heart skips a beat. it's a thrill.
did you know you can get seasick snorkeling? i found out the hard way! that said, i hope i can build up my sea tolerance so i can go on long swims in the ocean before summer's over. born & raised a midwesterner, salty water with living things in it bigger than i am still freaks me out.

Florence & The Machine- Cosmic Love |
] |
Every so often I get a little excited about a band, and I don't think one in particular has given me such a bad case of *swoon* related emotions since... I can't remember when. (A while ok? ok.)
Not only is Florence Welch completely gorgeous X 12 (see below) but her music is EPIC. E-P-I-C! Her album "Lungs" hits shelves in the UK July 6th. (insert hopes and dreams about a Canadian release date and tour here)

I figured I should attach some YouTube vids of just a few of her tasty tunes.
I'd heard about this band before but I hadn't really given the tunes a fair listen- but as of late I can't stop. This is the kind of music that I would love to make. I'm such a sucker for female vocalists.

| Awesome |
[05 Jul 2009|03:41pm] |
Its lovely outside. I highly recommend spending today eating brunch, being on a patio, painting something or just reading in the yard.
Productivity on a Sunday is a well known sin. All hail summer!! ;)
PS. I will be starting my two assignments for July tomorrow, do any of you want to hit a café of pub for working this week? Drop a note and let me know.

| Sofia's Proust Questionnaire |
[04 Jul 2009|06:56pm] |
Hi, all!
I've been looking for Sofia's answers to the Proust Questionnaire. I went back approx. two years in the community, only to find broken links. :(
Anyone have a link to these photos? Or a typed version of her answers? I think she's very intelligent and inspiring. I would love to know her thoughts on those subjects!
Merci beaucoup!

| comics with titles |
[04 Jul 2009|10:09pm] |

Sometimes I start comics that are supposed to be a whole page, but are only a half page.
On a related note, I have so many David Bowie drawings now, so many Ziggys.

| (the effort, must, therefore, lay within) |
[03 Jul 2009|11:46pm] |
the effort, must, therefore, lay within the bounds of limitless hearts;-
make the happiness lest the seeking puts you onto a labyrinth of misconstrued columns and wasted afternoons.
make your own happiness.
let not whispers be but anything but shouts.
manical declorations of blues nay, azures shine through rain and then
rainbows.
